Junior Sport Competitions

Welcome to Sports ARCademy! We offer junior sports basketball competitions on Friday afternoons during the school term. For for ages 8-15. We are all about kids getting active, developing game skills, and instilling values of good sportsmanship.

    About

    Our basketball competitions run every Friday during the school term and are for ages 8-15. Games run for 35 minutes, with matches being held between 4pm and 7:30 pm.

    All participants must be registered to play. If a player is found to be competing in the wrong age group, this will be resolved as per our By-Laws.

  • Fees & Charges  

    Please note that fees have changed for the upcoming summer season, in line with the City of Cockburn's annual budget review. 

    Teams will be required to nominate a credit card prior to the commencement of the first game. Direct debits are processed the day before the game, on a week-by-week basis. The weekly game fee is $67.30 per team and there is no registration fees.   

    Failure to make the payment before 5pm on game day, will result in a $10 late penalty, which will be added to your game fee.

    All teams must pay prior to their game in order to play.  
     

    Forfeiting a game

    Any forfeits advised with a least 24 hours’ notice prior to the commencement of the game will be liable for just your standard game fee.

    Teams forfeiting on the day of their game, will be required to pay a standard game fee, plus the oppositions game fee.

    Withdrawals  

    Teams that choose to withdraw their team during the season will incur a withdrawal fee. 

    At the end of the season, teams can decide whether to re-register into the next season. Registrations do NOT roll over to the next season, so as a result, teams must register for each season during the registration period.

    APPENDIX 3: Junior Social Sports Age-Specific Basketball Rules  

    Under 8's 

    Size 5 ball 

    • Age requirements include 6 or 7 years old
    • ​8’6 rim height 
    • Zone defence is illegal
    • No keyway violation 
    • No back-court violation 
    • Free throws to be taken from the white semi-circle 
    • No fouls are recorded 
    • No 8 second violation 
    • No 5 second violation 
    • Umpire according to skill level of game 
    • Mercy rule: If a team reaches a 20 point lead, any score made from there won’t be added on to the score, until the lead reduces below 15 points. The 20 point mercy rule will be replicated on Spawtz scoring and ladder system post-game. 
    • Special modifications: After each score the defending team must get one foot inside the three-point line at their defensive end, before playing defence. Once the opposition team passes the halfway line the defending team can move out of the three-point area.   

     


    Under 10's 

    Size 5 ball 

    • Age requirements include 7, 8  or 9 years old
    • ​8’6 rim height

    • Zone defence is illegal
    • Free throws are taken from the free-throw line
    • Fouls are recorded
    • Back court violation applied
    • Keyway violation applied
    • 8 second violation applied
    • 5 second violation applied
