    Frequently Asked Questions

    What is BJJ?
Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ) is a martial art that focuses on ground fighting and submission holds, using technique and leverage to outmanoeuvre your opponent. It's perfect for everyone – no matter your size, age, or ability.
    Is BJJ suitable for beginners?
Absolutely! BJJ is welcoming to beginners and offers a structured learning environment to help individuals progress at their own pace. Our instructors are experienced in teaching beginners and will provide guidance every step of the way!
Do I need prior martial arts experience to start BJJ?
No prior martial arts experience is necessary to start learning BJJ. Our classes cater to individuals of all skill levels, from complete beginners to advanced practitioners.
Do I need to spar (roll) in BJJ classes?
While sparring, known as rolling, is an integral part of BJJ training, participation is optional. Beginners can choose to observe or participate in drills until they feel comfortable engaging in sparring sessions.
Are there belt promotions in BJJ?
Yes! BJJ utilises a belt system to signify skill level and progress. Students start with a white belt and progress through various coloured belts (blue, purple, brown, and black) as they demonstrate proficiency in techniques and knowledge.
    Is BJJ safe for kids?
Yes, BJJ is a safe martial art for kids when taught by qualified instructors in a controlled environment. Our classes focus on skill development, discipline, and respect, emphasising safety at all times.
    What do I wear?
Since this BJJ class is a No-Gi version, all participants are required to wear a rashie style top (long or short sleeves) and you'll need shorts or spats (tight-fitting leggings) to wear on your lower body.
