Phoebe is our Swim Instructor of the Month!
She started with our Swim ARCademy team in November 2019. We recently sat down with her to find out what she loves the most about her job and what she likes to do outside work...
What do you love most about Cockburn ARC?
It is a clean, comfortable, safe, and inspiring environment. As a swimming teacher, I feel really supported by my colleagues and the space to do the best job I possibly can. I also love dressing up for our theme weeks, it makes it more fun for myself and the kids.
Why did you become a Learn to Swim Instructor?
My favourite part of school was swimming lessons, so getting to be a part of that for other kids is special. Also, everyone in my family is or has been a swimming teacher at one point, so I just wanted to be as cool as my mum.
What’s your favourite song to sing Karaoke to?
I really don’t like karaoke but Alphabet Aerobics by Blackalicious is always fun. I’d also never say no to a bit of Taylor Swift.
What’s your favourite swimming stroke?
Backstroke.
What is one thing they didn’t teach you at school you wish they did?
How long you’re allowed to keep different foods in the fridge or freezer before you can’t eat them anymore.
If you could have one superpower what would it be?
I'd like to be able to teleport around instead of driving or taking the train. I could go cool places then also like the Antarctic for a quick little visit.
If you could have one job in the whole world what would it be?
I’d like to be a waterslide tester.
What is your fun fact?
I held the state record for under 9-year-old girls 25m backstroke for a little while.
